Dharamshala, a hill station located in the Kangra Valley of Himachal Pradesh, is surrounded by the majestic Dhauladhar mountain range. Known for its rich culture, the region features many spiritual sites, such as the Tibetan monastery Tsuglagkhang Complex and the ancient Bhagsu Nag Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva and Nag Devta.

This was a trip to remember; from the towering peaks and crisp mountain air to the pleasant weather and peaceful atmosphere, everything was breathtaking. We began sightseeing with Bhagsu Nag Temple, where a calm aura welcomed us. At the Tsuglagkhang Complex, or the Dalai Lama Temple, rows of huge rolling golden prayer wheels mesmerised us. We spun them, making many heartfelt wishes. Afterwards, we trekked to Bhagsu Nag Waterfall. The rocks were covered with moss, making them slippery, yet we were thrilled by the adventure. At the waterfall, we dipped our feet into the icy mountain stream, which felt ethereal.

Our next visit was to St. John in the Wilderness Church, a magical, gothic castle hidden amid a forest of giant pine trees that looked straight out of a fairy tale. Its vibrant stained-glass windows looked stunning. The uphill walk to McLeod Ganj Market along the paved path surrounded by tall deodar trees was a scenic treat. We explored stalls selling colourful toys, hand-crafted jewellery, local food, and bought unique souvenirs. The street food was another major highlight. We devoured steaming-hot momos with spicy chutney, followed by ice cream and fruit slush.

Dharamshala proved to be an unforgettable retreat. The refreshing weather, quiet atmosphere, local cuisine, and picturesque landscapes were incredible. The trip reaffirmed that the Himalayas will always remain our favourite travel destination.
