It was originally known as Hailey National Park, named after the governor of the United Provinces, William Malcolm. Subsequently, it briefly carried the name Ramganga National Park from 1954-1955. In 1956, it was rechristened as Jim Corbett National Park in honor of the legendary hunter and naturalist, Jim Corbett.
