Imagine a 4-day trip to Gujarat, a land of traditions, colours, and culture! We are students of The Pupil International School, and we want to share our experience of visiting this unique place. We began with a 2-hour exhausting yet memorable flight followed by a bus ride to Vadodara. En route, we enjoyed classic Gujarati cuisine. On the second day, we visited the grand Lakshmi Vilas Palace. Then, we spotted the huge Statue of Unity. Did you know it would take 2 Statues of Liberty stacked together to match its height? Next, we had a fun-filled photo session at the Valley of Flowers, located beside the Statue of Unity. Towards the end of the day, we bought hand-crafted souvenirs, taking small parts of Gujarat home with us.

On Day 3, we explored diverse paintings and statues from Europe and India at the Baroda Museum & Art Gallery. At the Sabarmati Ashram, Mahatma Gandhi’s journey, his principle of Ahimsa, and achievements in the freedom movements fascinated us. We saw how thread is made by the Charkha from raw cotton fibres and viewed Gandhi ji’s original scribes. While his words of wisdom enlightened us, his handwriting was difficult to read.

As a group keen on designing, we were thrilled to visit the National Institute of Design on the final day. Here, we learnt that it was founded in 1961 with support from the Sarabhai family. Overall, this trip was enriching as we learnt about Gujarat’s rich history from the 3rd century BCE to the present. We had a little trouble adapting to the food and humid weather, yet this was an outstanding trip, especially because we were travelling with our friends.
