Jim Corbett National Park, located in Uttarakhand, is a picturesque landscape with abundant flora and fauna. It is best known for its Royal Bengal tigers, symbols of bravery and resilience. The park also shelters Asian elephants, leopards, deer, and numerous bird species.

During our journey, we learnt that Corbett Tiger Reserve has one of the world’s highest tiger densities. According to the 2022 All India Tiger Estimation, the reserve recorded approximately 14.65 tigers per 100 square kilometres. The survey also identified 260 individual tigers through camera-trap photographs. This made us realise why the reserve plays such an important role in protecting these animals.

We also discovered that Jim Corbett was India’s first national park, established in 1936 as Hailey National Park. In 1954–55, it was renamed Ramganga National Park. It received its present name in 1955–56 in honour of Jim Corbett, a famous hunter who later became a naturalist and wildlife conservationist. He played an important role in establishing the park. We also learnt that Project Tiger, a national programme to protect tigers and their habitats, was launched at Corbett in 1973.

However, despite their strength and importance to nature, tigers continue to face serious threats from poaching and habitat loss. Our journey helped us understand the importance of wildlife conservation and protecting biodiversity. We realised that spreading awareness and taking small steps towards conservation can help protect these magnificent animals for future generations.
