Jim Corbett National Park is India’s first national park. Located in Uttarakhand, it was established in 1936 during British rule. Today, the park is known worldwide for its incredible wildlife, including tigers, leopards, rhesus monkeys, and over 600 species of birds, including hornbills. Our journey began with excitement, hustle and bustle, and lots of electrifying fun. The marvellous songs we sang and the magnificent games we played were the cherry on top of our excursion. At night, we played musical chairs and enjoyed the cool breeze. We collected stones, bought souvenirs, and clicked countless pictures, but the most important thing was that these memories would always remain in our hearts.

Did you know that Jim Corbett National Park was originally called Hailey National Park, after Sir Malcolm Hailey, the Governor of the United Provinces? It was later renamed Ramganga National Park after the Ramganga River. In 1956, it was renamed Jim Corbett National Park in honour of Edward James Corbett, a hunter who later became a wildlife conservationist. Local villagers affectionately called him ‘Carpet Sahib’ and respected him for protecting their communities from man-eating tigers and leopards.

On our last night, the EdTerra team showed us an amazing documentary about Jim Corbett National Park, which helped us understand its history and wildlife. We had the best time on our journey together. We are thankful to our teachers and representatives for keeping us safe and taking care of us. Special thanks to the EdTerra team for making this memorable journey possible!
