If you have ever been to Jaipur and haven’t yet come across the name of Sawai Jai Singh II, a prominent king of Jaipur, this blog will provide you with all the information you need to know about him.

Sawai Jai Singh II was born in 1688 to King Bishan Singh from the Kachwaha dynasty. Following a family tradition, he was sent to Varanasi for his education. Tragically, his father passed away in 1699 in Afghanistan, succumbing to adverse climatic conditions and constant warfare. In the aftermath of his father’s death, Jai Singh II ascended to the throne at the tender age of eleven.

After Bishan Singh’s death, the Rajputs lost the trust of the Mughals and became politically weak. Jai Singh II was then tasked with the challenging mission of restoring the lost prestige of the Rajputs. During a Maratha rebellion against the Mughal empire, Aurangzeb sent a decree to Jai Singh II, summoning him to suppress the uprising. Leading his army, Jai Singh II fought bravely against the Marathas, successfully capturing the Khelna Fort. The Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb was pleased with Jai Singh II’s valour and leadership. Through such actions, Jai Singh II managed to restore the position of the Rajputs and build a relationship of mutual trust with the Mughals.

Despite Sawai Jai Singh’s death in 1743, even today he is remembered as a gallant warrior in the history of Jaipur. His contributions continue to be acknowledged and celebrated.

We are thrilled to share insights about Sawai Jai Singh II of Jaipur with you. We hope that the information we’ve provided proves insightful and valuable.
