Jaipur serves as the capital of Rajasthan and is located in the east-central part of the state. The city is named after its founder, Sawai Jai Singh II, a great astronomer and mathematician. It is also home to two UNESCO World Heritage Sites: Amber Fort and Jantar Mantar.

Jaipur is designed according to the key principles of Shilpa Shastra, which outlines the orientation of buildings in relation to the cardinal directions. We were amazed by the ingenuity of the great ruler of Rajasthan, as even three hundred years back, he designed his city as per the architectural standards and even commissioned great monuments such as the Jantar Mantar.

Interestingly, Sawai Jai Singh II constructed Jantar Mantar observatories in five different cities across India; the Jaipur observatory stands out as the largest among them. Jantar Mantar, Jaipur features many instruments such as Brihat Samrat Yantra, Jai Prakash Yantra, Niyati Chakra Yantra and Rama Yantra.

Exploring Jantar Mantar proved to be a captivating journey, unveiling the ingenious inventions of yesteryears to the younger generation. The accessibility of the site, with an entry ticket priced at a reasonable Rs 50 per person, ensures that this historical marvel is open to everyone eager to experience its wonders.

The traditional art forms of Rajasthan, such as the Kathputli ka Khel or puppetry, are truly outstanding. This art is performed by a team of puppeteers, where one skillfully manipulates the puppet using their fingers. This team also features talented singers, who utilise their skills to animate these seemingly lifeless puppets. These performers completely immerse themselves in creating an engaging and captivating experience for the audience.
