Ranthambore is known for its thrilling wildlife safaris and the majestic Ranthambore Fort. The Ranthambore National Park is famous for the Bengal tiger. We learnt that the Ranthambore Fort was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2013.
The Ranthambore Fort is believed to have been built in the 8th century by the Chauhan rulers. The fort is perched atop a hill, offering a strategic view point. Over the years, it became an important site for various dynasties, including the Mughals. We were amazed to see the fort with its high gates, intricate temples, and steep walls. The Ranthambore National Park is also a tiger reserve, declared in 1973. Notably, it is one of India’s most famous tiger reserves, spanning an area of 400 square kilometres.
The national park is a haven for wildlife lovers, offering a wide range of flora and fauna. Apart from tigers, the park is also home to leopards, sloth bears, wild boar, and over 300 species of birds. The beauty of the national park with its lakes and ancient ruins, creates an ideal setting for wildlife safaris. The park’s combination of history, wilderness, and breathtaking views ensure an unforgettable experience.
Currently, the fort is in ruins but has remained a popular site for history enthusiasts to come over and explore the fort. We hoped to catch a glimpse of tigers roaming freely. The landscape of the park, dotted with lakes and ancient ruins, provides a stunning backdrop for these encounters. The national park is a place of heritage with the right combination of wildlife and history.
