We explored the majestic Amber Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage site located just outside Jaipur. The fort is renowned for its stunning blend of Hindu and Mughal architecture and is divided into four main sections, each featuring its own beautiful courtyard.
Our journey began at the Suraj Pol, the main entrance that led to Jaleb Chowk, a large courtyard that once served as a gathering place for soldiers and visitors. The second section was the Diwan-e-Aam or Hall of Public Audience, where the king met his subjects. Raja Man Singh, who ruled in the late 16th century, built 12 rooms for his queens, each with a staircase leading to the king’s quarters. However, the queens were not permitted to ascend. In contrast, Raja Jai Singh II, who had only one queen, constructed a single lavish room that was equal in size to the three previous queens’ quarters.
As we walked through the fort, we were captivated by beautiful carvings, expansive gardens, and stunning views of the surrounding hills. We learnt that the fort was not only a royal residence but also a strategic military stronghold. The fort’s walls were designed to withstand attacks, and its location offered a natural defence. The blend of aesthetic beauty and practical design made Amber Fort a remarkable site. The beauty of Amber Fort was truly something to experience firsthand. No words or photos could fully capture its grandeur. Many travellers regarded it as the highlight of Jaipur, making it an essential stop on any visit to Rajasthan.
