Nainital is a paradise for nature lovers and offers a plethora of tourist attractions. The town is synonymous with its beautiful lakes, which are a must-visit for anyone travelling to the region. The Naini Lake, from which the city gets its name, is surrounded by seven stunning lakes that provide an idyllic setting for boating and leisurely walks. The Bhimtal Lake, located twenty kilometres away from Nainital in Bhimtal village, is another popular spot that is surrounded by verdant forests. The tranquil sounds of water as you row your boat will transport you to another world altogether.
For those seeking spiritual fulfilment, the Naina Devi Temple is a must-visit. This sacred temple is dedicated to Goddess Naina Devi and attracts devotees from far and wide. Legend has it that the town’s patron deity was formed when the left eye of Goddess Sati fell here. The temple’s location at the northern end of the lake is also considered to be a reason behind the town’s name.
Nainital’s rich cultural heritage is evident in approximately eighty percent of the population that follows Hinduism. The Choliya dance is a famous local dance form that involves the use of swords by the performers. The Tibetan Market in Nainital is a bustling and colourful shopping destination that offers a range of merchandise, including clothing, accessories and handicrafts. The market’s unique Tibetan-style clothes and jewellery are a popular attraction, and the location near the Naini Lake offers visitors with breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and scenery. A visit to the Tibetan Market in Nainital is a must for anyone seeking a unique shopping experience and the taste of Tibetan cultur.
