Students Exploring Udaipur and Its Natural Heritage

Udaipur is considered one of the most famous tourist places in India. It lies in the hills just east of the Aravali range, which makes it a picturesque spot. Udaipur is also known as Venice of the East and The City of Lakes.

Udaipur was made the capital of the princely state of Mewar in 1568 by Maharaja Udai Singh. The princely state of Udaipur was founded in the 8th century by Sisodia Rajputs. The dynasty held a strong and long resistance to the incoming Muslim invaders.

The City Palace situated in Udaipur has an enormous collection of paintings, beautiful statues and mind-blowing architecture. The Haldighati Museum depicts the rich history of Mewar.

City palace is India’s second largest palace. The architecture of the palace is just amazing. The narrow passages and steep slopes are some examples of the historical means to protect the palace from invaders in the 18th and 19th century.

It is believed that the Haldighati battle created a lot of bloodshed turning the soil of Haldighati red in colour. Haldighati Museum has a beautiful painting of the Mewar ruler, Maharana Pratap Singh. The museum has models of Chittorgarh fort, City palace and the battlefield of Haldighati where Maharana Pratap fought the Mughal forces.

We also went to Moti Magri. There was also a seven tonnes statue of Maharana Pratap riding on his horse, Chetak. The statue is made up of bronze.
