Our school team went on a trip to Aurangabad, officially renamed Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, in Maharashtra. During our visit, we explored the Ellora Caves and Bibi Ka Maqbara. The peaceful surroundings and Buddhist heritage of Ellora became an important part of our memories. Visiting the Ellora Caves felt like discovering a piece of heaven. The intricate rock-cut architecture reflects three different religious traditions: Buddhism, Hinduism, and Jainism. We were amazed to learn that people carved the caves into the rocky hills between the 6th and 12th centuries CE.

The Ellora Caves, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, attract historians, archaeologists, and tourists from around the world. One of the most remarkable structures is the Kailasa Temple, carved out of a single rock during the 8th century CE, under the Rashtrakuta king Krishna I. The walls depict scenes from both the Mahabharata and the Ramayana, and each sculpture has such detailed carvings that we could not take our eyes off them.

We also visited Bibi Ka Maqbara, a Mughal-era monument that resembles the Taj Mahal. We learnt that it was built by Prince Azam Shah, the son of Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb, in memory of his mother, Dilras Banu Begum. Throughout our two-day journey, we were grateful for the comfortable facilities and the experiences we shared. It was an enjoyable and enriching trip, and the happy memories we created along the way made the experience even more special. We highly recommend visiting these remarkable places with friends and family!
