Perched high on a rugged ridge of the Aravalli Hills, Amber Fort was commissioned by Raja Man Singh Ⅰ in Amer, Rajasthan. Amer town covers an area of 4 square kilometres and is located 11 kilometres from Jaipur. Further additions to the fort were made by later rulers like Mirza Raja Jai Singh I and Sawai Jai Singh Ⅱ.

Amber Fort is strategically built on a higher point, which gives it an upper hand in military defence and attack. It is surrounded by a 12-km-long wall, one of the longest fortification walls in India.

One of the most impressive parts of the Amber Fort is the Sheesh Mahal. It is embedded with tiny convex mirrors to create a sparkling effect and reflect light, giving warmth during winter. Another important feature is the Ganesh Pol, a magnificent gateway inside the Amber Fort. Decorated with floral patterns and intricate designs, it showcases an image of Lord Ganesha above the entrance, symbolising prosperity and good fortune. The Mughal Garden, known as Kesar Kyari, is a geometrically designed garden that creates a striking view from the palace above. Diwan–i-Aam (or the Hall of Public Audience) was where the ruler met the common citizens. Diwan-i-Khas (or the Hall of Private Audience) was used for meeting important guests, nobles, and officials. Finally, the Suraj Pol, or the Sun Gate, is another entrance to the fort. It faces east, towards the rising sun.

Amer Fort, or Amber Fort, located close to the capital of Rajasthan, is not only a marvellous architectural structure but also a timeless window into India’s royal past. Various elements of the fort showcase the region’s defence, royal life, art, and landscape within a single remarkable palace complex.
