Sawai Jai Singh II is heralded as one of the greatest visionaries of the Kingdom of Amber. Under his rule, the kingdom became one of the most formidable and respected kingdoms in Northern India, with local rulers holding him in great esteem. In this blog we will explore the various aspects which made him such a great ruler.

Sawai Jai Singh II was the 29th Kachwaha Rajput ruler of the Kingdom of Amber. His rule is marked by the expansion of the kingdom, the foundation of the fortified city of Jaipur, and the construction of the Jantar Mantar observatory

As a well-read scholar, he had a diverse range of knowledge of a wide variety of subjects ranging from mathematics to architecture. The Jantar Mantar observatory is a collection of astronomical instruments which depend on the shadows made by the sun as well as the position of various stars to determine the time of the day and to accurately track the movements of heavenly bodies as they traverse the hemisphere. Even till day, these instruments remain accurate to the second. They stand as a testament to the mathematical and architectural acumen of their maker, Sawai Jai Singh II.

Jai Singh II was given the title of Sawai – “One and one quarter better” than his contemporaries – by Aurangzeb. His genius ideas have inspired many generations going down the line. He had great interests in maths, architecture and astronomy. We too were inspired by his trailblazing ideas and believe that his actions made a big impact.
