The Explorers’ Guide to the Island of Gods

The island of gods, Bali, is an oasis of serenity and inspiration for all who visit. The island is a living postcard, an Indonesian paradise steeped in rich tradition.

Bali is a unique blend of different cultures and religions like Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam and Christianity. There are over 20,000 temples in Bali, amongst which Jagatnath temple is the prominent one. In most of the places in Bali, we saw black statues and white statues at the entrance, signifying evil and pure spirits respectively. While we were river rafting in Ayung River, we also noticed impressive rock carvings on the river bank depicting the story of the Ramayana.

We observed that the houses in Bali are generally made with slanting terracotta roof sheds. During our visit to the Green School, we were impressed by their sustainable and environment friendly practices. Our group also had the chance to experience the powerful vibrations of the Quartz crystal. It is believed that prayers offered by touching the crystal come true. The school also had a newly opened building called ‘The Arc’ whose infrastructure was designed to harvest rainwater. One significant feature of the school was the bamboo bridge across the Ayung river, which could hold even 300 people at a time.

We visited Mount Batur, one of the most famous peaks of Bali. We also witnessed the magnificent Kecak dance in the Uluwatu temple, located on a cliff washed by the Indian ocean. In Bali, we witnessed a diverse variety of architectural marvels, geological terrains, and mythological tales. Kuta beach, located on the south-western coast of Bali, is one of the most visited beaches. The white sandy beach is well known for its consistent waves, making it a popular destination for surfers. The Monkey forest of Bali is a renowned natural and cultural site located in Ubud. It serves as a vital wildlife conservation area, and preserves Balinese cultural and spiritual heritage.

In conclusion, Bali’s infrastructure and mythology form an intricate tapestry that defines the island’s unique character and allure. Bali blends modernity and tradition, ensuring that its rich history and spiritual legacy continue to thrive, captivating the hearts of all who visit.
