Namaste! We, the students of The Shriram Millennium School from Grades 4 and 5, recently went on an exciting journey to Corbett National Park. On our first day, we visited the Dhangarhi Museum, which offered detailed insights into the park’s wildlife, ecology, and the legacy of Jim Corbett, after whom the park is named. We also visited the Garjiya Devi Temple, dedicated to Goddess Parvati and situated on a rock in the middle of the Kosi River. Afterwards, we went back to our resort for dinner and a restful sleep.

The next morning at 4:00 am, we went on a jungle safari, where we spotted turtles, tigers, wild boar, several species of deer, and birds. We explored the Jhirna zone, which became a part of the Corbett National Park in 1994. The park is home to an abundant population of chital, sambar deer, and sloth bears.

Did you know that Jim Corbett’s full name was Edward James Corbett? Our guide shared some interesting facts with us: Jim Corbett’s first book was “Jungle Stories”. In 1968, a subspecies of the Indochinese tiger was named “Panthera tigris corbetti” after him. Jim Corbett owned the village of Chhoti Haldwani and helped locals with various horticulture experiments, introducing crops like African maize and coffee. Jim Corbett tracked and shot 19 tigers and 14 leopards. Through this journey, we learnt the importance of protecting wildlife and respecting nature. We also experienced staying independent for the first time. We had a memorable experience with Edterra, combining education with adventure. Warm regards to the entire team from our entire school!
