Everyone has their ups and downs, and everyone has to learn to survive them, alone or together. We, the students of the Millennium School, Noida, have ascended the ladder up north, to Viraatkhai in Uttarakhand. With its cool winds, sunny days, and graceful hills, we were awestruck the moment we laid eyes on Viraatkhai. Our cottages had a strange beauty.

During our time at our adventure camps, we have learnt various skills, gained more knowledge about nature, and have made wiser decisions regarding our health. The activities and lessons at our camp definitely taught us a lot about survival skills that are required in the woods. We learnt how to build different types of shelters, to make a temporary storage using rocks and dried wood, and to treat wounds using the first-aid kit while trekking.

Along with these basic life skills, we had to coordinate, manage our luggage and belongings, and collaborate with our teammates during activities. We also learnt environment conscious practices to follow in the mountains such as LNT(Leave No Trace) principles. LNT principles are important to maintain the natural beauty of the mountains and to stop polluting the environment. These principles include 7 key points.

  1. Plan ahead and prepare.
  2. Travel and camp on durable surfaces.
  3. Dispose of waste properly.
  4. Leave what you find.
  5. Minimise campfire impacts.
  6. Respect wildlife.
  7. Be considerate to other visitors.

Our camping trip was both adventurous and educational as we were able to gain a lot of 21st Century skills like collaboration, problem solving, and communication. Through these life skills, we can create a totally new and completely positive experience of life.
