Hello everyone! Jantar Mantar is a timeless marvel of science and architecture. In this blog, our team will explore the Jantar Mantar at Jaipur, the instruments used in it, and the remarkable scientific knowledge of the past used in its operation.

Did you know that between 1724 and 1735, Maharaja Jai Singh II of Jaipur constructed five Jantar Mantars? These observatories are located in New Delhi, Jaipur, Ujjain, Mathura, and Varanasi. The primary purpose of building these structures was to compile astronomical tables and to accurately predict the time and movements of the Sun, Moon, and planets. Among them, the Jantar Mantar in Jaipur has been recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The Jantar Mantar at Jaipur is the largest of the five observatories. It features several impressive instruments, including the Samrat Yantra, Jai Prakash Yantra, Niyati Chakra, and Ram Yantra. Each instrument was designed for precise astronomical calculations. The Vrihat Samrat Yantra is the world’s largest sundial. We were amazed by the fact that it can measure local time with an accuracy of up to two seconds.

Jantar Mantar showed us that even in ancient times, people possessed a deep understanding of physics, astronomy and architecture. Despite having limited resources, they were able to design and construct highly accurate scientific instruments. We realised that it is a proof of human curiosity and innovation, making Jantar Mantar a truly timeless wonder.
