A torch that never dims, a freedom that never fades.
When we first caught sight of the Statue of Liberty from our ferry, it felt unreal. There she was, tall, proud, and gleaming, a symbol of freedom and hope that we had only seen in books. Standing on Liberty Island, we could feel the history and emotion surrounding her. Officially named “Liberty Enlightening the World,” she represents everything humanity strives for—courage, endurance, and the right to live freely.

Learning that she was a gift from France to the United States amazed us. The idea was proposed by Édouard de Laboulaye, designed by Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi, and the metal framework was built by Gustave Eiffel. Standing 305 feet tall, made of copper that has turned green with time, she is a perfect mix of art and engineering.

As we looked up at her torch, we imagined how millions of immigrants once saw this same sight after long journeys, filled with hope for a better life. The lines from Emma Lazarus’s poem echoed in our minds: “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free.”

Before leaving, we paused for a moment, realising that Lady Liberty is more than just a statue, she is a reminder that freedom is both a gift and a responsibility. Seeing her in person filled us with pride and gratitude, an experience we’ll carry forever as a symbol of unity and hope. We loved our journey with EdTerra Edventures, and we will surely love to travel more with them in the future.
