We had a very wonderful day at Wagah Border during our school trip to Amritsar in Punjab. It was an experience that none of us could have imagined.
Wagah Border is a fascinating place. It’s a border crossing between India and Pakistan, located near Amritsar in Punjab. The main attraction here is the beating retreat ceremony that takes place every evening before sunset. Firstly, all the ladies and girls were called for the dance in the middle and the boys were dancing in their respective places. There was a huge flag of India that reflected a feeling of patriotism like never before.
During the ceremony, soldiers from both the countries perform a highly synchronised drill that includes marching and saluting. They march towards the gates and lift their legs high and stomp on the ground with a huge force as a display of strength. The discipline and coordination of the soldiers were incredible to watch. When the gates at the border were opened, soldiers from both countries exchanged powerful salutes. Then the flags of both countries are lowered in harmony. The crowds from both sides were cheering and the energy was intense.
This was an incredible experience. We left feeling a great sense of pride. The Wagah Border ceremony is not just a show of patriotism but also brotherhood between the two countries. We would love to visit Wagah Border again.
