From great exhibits and 3D simulators to the real-life Atlantis space shuttle and even wildlife, NASA’s Kennedy Space Center has it all. One can learn anything and everything about space.
Our school gave us a unique opportunity to visit the Kennedy Space Center, located on Merritt Island in Florida. It is an important launch site for NASA. We felt very excited as we embarked on this journey, hoping to learn all about NASA’s operations and space missions.
We took a bus ride to explore the Kennedy Space Center. The bus took us to the Vehicle Assembly Building. We learnt that the Vehicle Assembly Building is the largest building at the Kennedy Space Center. It is designed to assemble large, pre-manufactured space vehicle components. As the bus took us around the center, it showed us the wildlife at the Kennedy Space Center, which was unexpected and truly amazing. They have alligators, turtles, tortoises, and many other species of animals. This diverse wildlife is a result of the National Merritt Island Wildlife Refuge, which shares a boundary with Kennedy Space Center.
We had an enriching session learning about the lives of astronauts as well. Ken Cameron, an actual astronaut, held an official meeting with us. He taught us about not giving up and to keep working hard. He told us about his experience flying in the NASA Shuttle and the struggles he faced to get there. By the end of the session, we had a clearer understanding of space and its wonders.
