Hello, mysterious readers, today we are going to help you dive deep into the history of Agra Fort and our great experience of visiting this historic site. The Agra Fort was known by many names such as Qila-i-Akbari, Red Fort, Fort Rouge, as well as Badalgarh. The fort was captured by Babur, Akbar’s grandfather, and the fort’s construction was completed by Akbar.
We explored various areas of the fort such as Amar Singh gate, Jahangiri Mahal, Anguri Bagh, and Meena Masjid. Amar Singh gate lies in the south side of the fort and is defended by a square bastion flanked by towers. Jahangiri Mahal, which was our favourite, is located in front of a marble bathtub that was gifted to Jahangir. Back then, the bathtub was filled with thousands of flower petals.
Agra Fort was inherited by four generations of Mughal emperors, namely Akbar, Jahangir, Shah Jahan, and Aurangzeb. We learnt that different parts of the fort were built by several different rulers. The palaces constructed by marble were made by Shah Jahan. We learnt that Akbar had separate palaces for all his wives. We understood the mighty fort’s strategic importance that protected the whole city. In 1983, the Agra Fort was declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Today, 70% of the Agra Fort is taken over by the Indian Army.
We all loved the experience of visiting Agra Fort and we got to know about the fort in a detailed way. We also got to learn about four generations of Mughals. We really recommend visiting this vast fort as we enjoyed the journey, including the fun bus ride.
