Ranthambore as a wildlife park buzzes with life and serenity. Located at the junction of the Aravallis and Vindhya hill ranges, Ranthambore was full of tourists eager to spot the magnificent royal Bengal tigers and other incredible wildlife like sloth bear, leopard, caracal, jackal, fox, hyena, and mongoose. We were amazed to learn that the park is home to over 40 species of mammals, 320 plant species, more than 300 species of birds, around 40 species of reptiles, and multiple species of amphibians.

Long before it became a park for protecting animals, Ranthambore was a private hunting ground for the Maharajas (kings) of Jaipur. It was once home to a legendary tigress named Machli (also called the Queen of Ranthambore) who was famous for fighting a 14-foot crocodile. We came to know that many tigers here are not shy and can often be spotted walking near lakes or resting in the sun. Reaching deep into the heart of the forest, we discovered the ruins of the massive 10th-century Ranthambore Fort. The park has three main lakes: Padam Talao, Malik Talao, and Raj Bagh Talao, where animals gather to drink water during the hot summer months. Padam Talao, one of the park’s biggest lakes, is known for its beautiful water lilies.

Although most animals are naturally peaceful and avoid conflict, it is important to be careful around them and strive to protect them. Every visitor must respect forest rules, avoid making loud noises, and maintain a safe distance from wild creatures. Protecting this delicate ecosystem ensures that future generations can also experience the rich natural heritage and unique wildlife of Ranthambore.
