Jim Corbett National Park, a place of scenic beauty and breathtaking views, is one of the oldest and most popular national parks in India. Established in 1936 as Hailey National Park, it was India’s first national park. Located in the hill station of Nainital, Uttarakhand, Jim Corbett National Park is not only a world-renowned tourist spot but also a home to several endangered species. It covers 1,288 square kilometres, and the Ramganga River flows through it. It serves as a place of tranquillity and spiritual nourishment where visitors are surrounded by an abundance of flora and fauna.

Upon arrival, we were mesmerised by the green canopies of its forest and the aromatic scent of the wilderness. During the jungle safari, we witnessed many indigenous trees like sal (Shorea robusta), rohini (Mallotus philippensis) and bakli (Anogeissus latifolia). The sanctuary’s diverse fauna includes royal Bengal tigers, exotic leopards, Asian elephants, sloth bears and deer. In 1973, it became the first reserve under Project Tiger. Around 600 species of birds surround the forest with their charming and soothing chirps.

Named after the legendary hunter and author Edward James Corbett (born in Nainital in 1875), the reserve provides an ideal weekend retreat for young minds to learn about wildlife conservation and nature’s bounties. From hiking along adventurous rocky trails to exploring the biodiversity via open-top gypsies, these experiences build compassion, teamwork, resilience, and courage among the young explorers. In a nutshell, Jim Corbett is a must-visit destination for wildlife enthusiasts and nature lovers to rejuvenate their minds, appreciate ecological preservation, and create unforgettable memories in the lap of Mother Nature.
