Mukteshwar is a tranquil hill station in Uttarakhand’s Nainital district, situated at an elevation of 2,286 metres above sea level. Surrounded by pine forests, oak trees and fruit orchards, it is known for its cool climate, peaceful environment and wide views of the snow-capped Himalayas. The town gets its name from Mukteshwar Dham, a revered hilltop temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, believed to be about 350 years old. The Sanskrit word “Mukteshwar” means “the Lord who grants liberation” from the cycle of life and death.

We began our morning by exploring the Mahadev Temple, perched at a height of about 7,500 feet. The spiritual atmosphere instantly gave us a sense of peace. A scenic walk through the woods brought us to our next stop, Chauli Ki Jali, a striking rocky cliff located near the Mahadev Temple. In the local Kumaoni language, chauli means rock and jali means net. The dramatic cliffside and panoramic view left us amazed and also gave us a perfect opportunity to capture aerial footage using drones.

In the afternoon, we enjoyed a wholesome lunch before heading to Bhalu Gaad Waterfall. After a peaceful one-kilometre trek, we reached a hidden natural haven. To our delight, we saw a rainbow forming near the falling stream. Dipping our feet in the refreshing water washed away our tiredness. Mukteshwar gave us a refreshing and much-needed break from the fast-paced lifestyle we usually experience in cities.
