We, the students of TI School, are writing this blog about our educational field trip to Kodaikanal in August. Here, we’ll take you through our fun-filled experiences in the beautiful hill station of Kodaikanal. Our journey began from Chennai, with multiple stops and modes of transport along the way. To be honest, we’ve never had such an enjoyable journey before! Upon arrival, our kind-hearted tour guides gave us an hour to refresh before we began our exploration.
Our first stop was Bryant Park, where we clicked countless pictures amidst the mist-covered scenery. The gardens were exquisitely maintained, and we learnt that a Eucalyptus tree there has been living for over 175 years. Next, we visited Kodai Lake at dusk. It spans over 60 acres with a circumference of more than 8 km. Some of us cycled while others explored the shops around the lake. Among the boys, we had a cycling race, and the winner got a free balloon-shooting game. One of us rode around three times in just 30 minutes—truly a fantastic experience!
The highlight of the trip was trekking to Dolphin’s Nose, a 3 km trek that rewarded us with a breathtaking sunrise and scenic views. We were lucky to spot a hawk soaring high in the sky. The Guna Caves (Devil’s Kitchen) were equally fascinating, with our tour guide sharing an intriguing story behind its name. Pine Forest was the greatest of all, especially after a playful encounter with a monkey!
Pillar Rock amazed us as we learnt from our guide that it consists of two giant vertical rocks, like the titans from the anime Attack on Titan. Of course, we captured plenty of pictures here too. At Moir Point, our guide shared another fascinating story. A British governor named Moir built a highway through the hills toward Munnar, Kerala, covering 80 km. However, it was banned due to several encounters with wild animals, leaving us to travel over 30 km to reach Munnar. In the evening, we enjoyed shopping, showing off our “riches” and spending freely.
In conclusion, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to our incredible journey mentors, especially Mr Hannan and Ms Rekha, who gave their best to make this trip unforgettable. We had a wonderful time exploring these beautiful spots and creating memories with friends.
