Did you ever feel like you were in a place that looked like the future but felt like home? That’s exactly how Japan felt to us. Japan had high-tech streets, ancient temples, and people who treated us like family, even though we didn’t speak the same language. In this blog, we will share details about our learning and our experience in Japan with our school friends. One thing we want to share before anything is our gratitude towards our parents and teachers who supported us along the way.
Exploring Japan taught us much more than just facts about places. It changed the way we think. We came back more curious, more thoughtful, and definitely more punctual, just like the trains in Tokyo! One of the biggest highlights was experiencing Japanese culture first hand. From walking through peaceful shrines and lively streets to trying sushi and dressing in yukatas, we didn’t just learn about Japan, we lived it.
Some of our favourite memories were the moments when we interacted with locals. For example, strangers stopped to help us read train signs and even showed us the right way to buy snacks from vending machines. These moments reminded us how kindness can break any language barrier.
We also learnt how much the Japanese value respect. Simple traditions, like bowing when you meet someone or staying quiet on trains, taught us how powerful small gestures can be. One of the most special moments was our calligraphy session. Our teacher didn’t just teach us calligraphy, she also shared stories and wisdom from her experience. This made us realise how much we can learn from people, not just places. Most of all, we discovered that you don’t need to speak perfect Japanese to connect with others. A smile, a gesture, or a shared experience is sometimes enough to build a bond.
