Imagine you are in the wild and you only have a packet of instant noodles as your source of food. You would need some source of heat to be able to cook it. You do not have a gas cylinder on the go, so you would need to find another way to overcome that challenge. The only solution would be to create fire, using alternative sources. To create fire, you need some wood, dry leaves or grass. Or you can get acorns, the nuts or small fruits of oak trees. Acorns are highly flammable, and create a perfect fire for your convenience. The process of creating fire starts with building a circle of rocks and lighting up the flammable items.
Now what if it starts to rain and you don’t have a shelter? You will make a shelter for yourself. For this, you take a tarp and get it up in one of the following ways. These include, a square shaped tent, a triangle shaped tent, and lastly, a lean tent!
Now while in the outdoors, you may get hurt or worse, you may even get a fracture! What would you do? You make a stretcher to carry the injured person. For this, you need two strong sticks and use hoodies and t-shirts as the surface. You spread the hoodies and t-shirts through the sticks and make a stretcher. Well you can’t do all this on your own.You need someone to help you along and that is where good teamwork and collaboration comes to the test. Working together helps you as an individual to build character and work efficiently. This is what we learnt during our time in Koti. We were divided into groups and given team building activities in the form of a competition. We were also briefed on the basic safety rules and regulations of a campsite and how to take care of the environment around you.
To conclude, learning these survival skills allowed us to overcome our challenges, face our fears, and thrive in the wilderness.
