Jantar Mantar is an epitome of hard work, precision, and experimentation. It was built by King Sawai Jai Singh II. He was interested in astrological matters. He built various machines including sundials, astrological statues, Vrihat Samrat Yantra, Laghu Samrat Yantra, and Ram Yantra. The most famous machinery is the sundial. Its invention is appreciated worldwide and the Jantar Mantar is marked as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

The primary purpose of building these observatories was to complete/compile astronomical tables and to predict the times and movements of the sun, the moon, and planets. Rock, wood, marble, and other raw materials were used to design these machines. It took approximately 50 years to design and build these machines and devices across India. In India, Jantar Mantar is built in 5 states, namely New Delhi (capital), Jaipur, Ujjain, Mathura, and Varanasi. With their designs, they outdate the olden era. As a result of new inventions, a sense of the boundaries of the universe and the galaxy developed.

The architecture of the monuments in Jantar Mantar is based on science. It is dependent on the inclination and rotation of the sun and its axis. However, some of the devices are dependent on both sunlight and moonlight, showing zodiac signs, time, date of birth, and the sun’s position in the sky.

Thus, Jantar Mantar is a divine place that showcases the wonders of the old kings (King Sawai Jai Singh II and King Man Singh) and their interests. Jaipur is an excellent place to visit, and the Jantar Mantar should not be missed.
