We got the wonderful opportunity to visit Amer Fort and keenly observed its beautiful architecture, which reflects a variety of cultures and traditions. Amer Fort is located in Amer, a town just 11 kilometres from Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan.

The town of Amer was the capital of the Kachwaha Rajputs. Amer Fort itself was originally established by Raja Man Singh I in the late 16th century. Later, further additions were made by Sawai Jai Singh II before shifting the capital to Jaipur. Raja Man Singh was a trusted general of Mughal Emperor Akbar. Built in red sandstone and white marble, the fort is a striking example of the blend of Hindu and Mughal architectural styles. The grand gateways, wide courtyards, decorated pillars, and colourful wall paintings show the richness of Rajput rulers, while the arches and gardens reflect Mughal influences.

Among its many chambers are the Sukh Niwas, Sheesh Mahal, Diwan-e-Aam, and Diwan-e-Khas. The Sukh Niwas, for instance, showcases the innovative techniques of that era. A channel of running water around the chamber created a natural air-conditioning effect to keep the royal family cool during the scorching summers. The entire architecture expresses qualities such as teamwork, unity, innovation, cultural diversity, and creativity.

Amer Fort, with its beautiful chambers and intricate designs, holds a special place in Rajasthan’s cultural heritage. We learnt a lot about Rajput history and the clever architectural techniques used in old forts and palaces. We highly recommend that every visitor to Jaipur explore this magnificent fort.
